Police are searching for unknown number of suspects who apparently started a fire while trying to rob a Jane Street jewelry store late Sunday night.

Firefighters were called to the scene on Jane south of Lawrence just before midnight.

The would-be robbers cut a hole in the roof of the store, which sparked a fire and set off alarms. The intruders took off and it appears as though nothing was taken.

There’s no word yet on a damage estimate.
