Woman Armed With Samurai Sword Allegedly Attacks Boyfriend And Gas Station Patrons

It's not often that police are called to a sword fight that leaves multiple injuries in its wake. But that was the unusual situation that confronted Halton Regional Police on Sunday, after a woman and her boyfriend became embroiled in a domestic dispute near Steeles and Martin St. in Milton.

Cops allege the enraged woman grabbed a samurai sword the man had on display and brandished it at her partner. He suffered cuts to his shoulder, arm and head before the man's brother intervened and forced her out of the apartment.

But it didn't end there.

Detectives contend the suspect then marched across the street to a gas station, where she allegedly used the weapon to smash the storefront window and the glass in two of the facility's doors. Cops say she then walked up to a car and repeated the performance on the vehicle's windows.

She's accused of then entering the service station's store and confronting the employees inside. An off duty firefighter challenged the woman. "He came up from behind the woman in an attempt to grab her," reveals Det. Sgt. Murray Drinkwalter. "She swung around and [allegedly] slashed the firefighter in the arm."

By this time, the men in the store had surrounded the suspect and managed to wrestle the sword away from her and subdue her until police arrived.

The firefighter suffered a slash wound across the arm and was taken to Hamilton General Hospital. The boyfriend was taken to Milton District Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The 21-year-old suspect was arrested and sent to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, where her own wounds were addressed. Charges against her are pending.

Cops aren't releasing any names yet as they continue to investigate one of the more bizarre crimes of the year.
