Homicide detectives have arrested two brothers in connection to the murder of Scarborough barber Chris Thompson.
Kevin Perez, 27, and Christopher Perez, 22, were arrested and charged with first-degree murder on Monday, Det. Sgt. Dan Nielsen said at a press conference Tuesday.
Thompson, 35, was gunned down inside Malvern barbershop Cut Creator on Jan. 24 in what police say was a targeted attack.
"A number of search warrants were executed Monday in Ottawa, Toronto, and Orillia," Nielsen said.
Police seized guns, ammunition, cocaine, and stolen property in the raids. Three other people were arrested, but their arrests are not connected to Thompson's murder.
Thompson was long-time barber and father of two. He was cutting a customer's hair at the shop in Malvern Town Centre in Scarborough when he was shot several times at point-blank range around 12:45 p.m.
Neilson said that while he wouldn’t comment on a specific motive, "the events were connected to recent history...It had nothing to do with money."
Neilson said that many witnesses came forward, which helped with the investigation. However, they have not spoken to the person who was getting his hair cut when Thompson was shot.
