Starbucks Recalls Mugs Over Faulty Handles

Coffee giant Starbucks is recalling two types of its coffee mugs over fears the handle could fall off.

Nine people have apparently suffered burns when the handles detached after the mug was filled with hot liquid. There have been 23 such reports so far.

The 14-oz Fusion Coffee Mugs are sold in two styles - both are white with a black plastic handle and stainless steel bottom but one reads Starbucks Coffee on a black stamp, the other has the original Starbucks logo in brown. Both are manufactured in China.

The stamp mugs were sold between February 2007 and November 2007 for US$11. The cups with the vintage logo were only sold at Seattle's Pike Place Market, during the same period.

The coffee company asked that anyone owning the mug stop using it immediately and contact the company for both a refund and a free drink.
