A funeral was held Friday morning for one of the three Via Rail employees killed in a train derailment in Burlington on Sunday.

Patrick Robinson, 40, of Cornwall, Ont., was a trainee. He was in the locomotive with two veteran engineers. Peter Snarr, 52, and Ken Simmonds, 56, both of Toronto, were also killed in the crash.

Forty-six people were also injured in the crash.

A mass was held for Robinson at Saint Peter’s Church in Cornwall. He is survived by his children, Amanda and Logan.

The family has asked that donations be made to Big Brothers and Big Sisters or the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Robinson’s memory.

A cause of the accident hasn’t been determined. But the Transportation Safety Board of Canada said Thursday that the passenger train was travelling at more than four times the authorized speed when it was switching lanes.
