Weather Forecast Calls For Snowy Start To New Year

Pre-Winter Storm Continues To Pound GTA

If you're planning on heading out to a New Year's Eve party, you'll want to bundle up.

It looks as though we're going to see a snowy start to the New Year, with anywhere from 10 to 15 centimetres of the white stuff accumulating in the GTA. The flakes will begin to fall at about midnight, as we say goodbye to 2007 and hello to 2008.

That means driving conditions could be treacherous as you head home from that end-of-the-year party, just one more reason to take public transit.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for most of Ontario, including the GTA, Hamilton and Niagara, Windsor, Barrie, Waterloo, Peterborough, and Kingston, warning of the low pressure system moving through the province over New Year's Day.

By 6am Tuesday there could be five centimetres on the ground in the GTA, and that could rise by another five to ten centimetres by noon.

The snowfall will then move off east over the course of the day. Some areas of the province could see up to 25 centimetres of accumulation.

Northern cottage country and the Ottawa Valley is expected to escape this particular weather system.
