July 18 - StreetBeat - Fire In Little Italy

An early-morning fire forced several above-store apartments to be evacuated in the city's Little Italy neighbourhood.

Fortunately everyone was safe after the blaze broke out before 6am Tuesday near College St. and Spadina Ave. Four people had to be treated for smoke inhalation, but they're expected to be fine.

Fire officials are looking into the cause of the fire and how much damage was inflicted.

Acid Burn

A hydrochloric acid leak at a CN Rail Yard near Keele and Highway 7 sent 15 people to hospital Tuesday afternoon.

CN officials say a contracted company was transferring the acid from a rail car to a tanker truck around five this morning when crews noticed a leak.

The acid formed a cloud when it hit the air and the cloud was pushed by winds across Keele. Fifteen employees at a nearby company were sent to hospital and treated for nausea and other symptoms, but have since been released. No train service has been affected and the spill has been cleaned up.
