Police Make Arrest In Murder Of 18-Yr.-Old, Search For 2nd Suspect

Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that gripped Toronto when it was captured on surveillance video and released.

Abdikarim Ahmed Abdikarim, 18, was gunned down over two weeks ago while sitting with friends on the front porch of a townhouse near the Allen and Lawrence. The other five people that were shot survived.

In a rare move, police then released a segment from the video to the media and posted it online. The silent footage shows a man calmly firing a handgun several times at an unseen group of men just metres away.

Wendell Damian Cuff, 25, was arrested Sunday and is charged with First Degree Murder and five counts of attempted murder. His arrest - which came early Sunday morning, allegedly in an Amaranth Court home not far from the crime scene - brings some modicum peace to the fallen teen's family.

"I was really angry at first," admitted Deka Abdikarim, the victim's sister. "But a lot of murder cases go unsolved ... and it's just amazing to see that two weeks after his death."

Abdikarim's father was quick to second his daughter's sentiments.

"Good news," was all a soft-spoken Mohammad Ahmed Abdikarim said.

Cuff is scheduled to appear in court Monday. Meanwhile, investigators are still searching for a second suspect in the slaying. An arrest warrant has also been issued for 25-year-old Owen Anthony Smith, wanted on the same charges.

Police are expected to update the case Monday. If you have any information that can help authorities, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS
