Part Of Downtown Core Shut Down After Shooting

As one witness described, "It was fast, crazy, and insane."

And for Torontonians still reeling from one of the city's darkest moments when 15-year-old Jane Creba was felled by bullets during a Boxing Day shootout on Yonge St., the sound of gunshots ringing out in that same area Tuesday night marked a lack of respect for life, and to some, a lack of progress in the ongoing battle against gunplay.

Officers say at least six shots were fired at a car near O'Keefe Lane and Shuter Street, just east of Yonge.

A large area surrounding the crime scene was closed to traffic while police recovered evidence.

"Upon arrival the officers found a number of casings indicating shot has been fired. Witnesses indicate that a vehicle was seen leaving the scene, and at this point in time we're continuing our investigation. We have no victim," reveals Insp. Gordon Jones.

Details are sketchy, but reports indicate a man fired shots at a passing Cadillac with four people inside.

It doesn't appear as though anyone was hit, and the car sped away.

"Two males fired at four or five other males in a car like a few meters away from me and just ran off," one witness relayed.

Police believe the trouble may have started at a Popeye's fast food outlet, but haven't confirmed anything yet.

Authorities are checking hospitals throughout the city to see if anyone has been admitted suffering from gunshot wounds.
