Canadian Liver Foundation Saves One-Year-Old Girl

Kailey Simmons is alive today because of the Canadian Liver Foundation.

The one-year-old girl received a life-saving liver transplant back in September, a transplant that was made possible by the CLF.

On Sunday, the Simmons family gathered at a fundraiser to say thank you.

"They're a great organization, just getting awareness out there," said Kailey's mom, Lisa Simmons.

"It's amazing, she's a lot stronger and she's happy all the time," said .

Kailey (pictured) is just one of the many people the organization has helped, but there are still many more in need of assistance. That was the message at Sunday's event: more people need help, and more can be helped.

Simmons and her daughter did their part by handing out prizes at the event, the end result of which isn't just to raise money, but to demonstrate the importance of organ and tissue donations.

Laurie Fraser's daughter Kyla was proof of that, using donations just to reach her 10 th birthday, before passing away five years ago.

"A liver transplant is the leading treatment and it's for many the children the only chance they have for life," said Laura Fraser.

As for Kailey, she's now got her whole life to look forward to.

"I just hope she grows and lives a normal, happy, healthy life and every goes good, and just gets better from here," said Simmons.
