Several people were injured Wednesday after two streetcars collided at a downtown intersection.
One of the streetcars apparently came off the rails near
Bay and Dundas Sts. at about 6am. According to TTC officials a vehicle travelling westbound collided with one that was supposed to be going eastbound but apparently turned north on Bay for some reason.
Six passengers were hurt, although their injuries were considered minor. A driver suffered neck injuries and was taken to hospital to be treated.
The intersection of Bay and Dundas was closed off for a time and police were on the scene investigating.
"This line was just resurfaced last year so at this point I have no idea why (the streetcar) came off (the rails)," noted Const. Robert Rodrigues of Toronto Police.
There's word a switching problem may be to blame. The roadway was reopened just before 9am.
It's the second incident involving a TTC vehicle in as many days. On Tuesday a bus driver
lost control of the vehicle near Yonge St. and York Mills Rd., hitting two cabs and a light pole before going off the road and hitting a tree. The cause of that crash is still being investigated.
Anyone with information in the streetcar collision is asked to call police at
416-808-5200.
