There's a new "it" bag on the market, and you may want to shield your eyes before taking a close look. The one-of-a-kind clutch is made of platinum and covered in diamonds - 2,000 of them, in fact.

That's about 167 carats in total, including the centerpiece: a pear-shaped eight-carat diamond that can be detached.

Because if you're going to sport a purse with price tag of $2 million US, it might as well be versatile. The strap can be turned into a necklace, or two bracelets. And that ritzy clasp can be worn as a brooch.

"So it's multifunctional as well as being obviously unique for being made in platinum and diamonds," extols Nick Fitch, owner of jewellery shop Nicholas James. His shop is hoping to sell the bag, created two years ago by Japanese jewellery house Ginza Tanaka.

Fitch must be assuming that old adage is true, and that size doesn't matter: the clutch is only 9 centimetres high, 14 centimetres wide and 5 centimetres deep.

He made another bold leap when stating what's most eye-catching about the accessory:

"I think what makes it stand out is platinum is an incredibly hard metal to work with.  And the craftsmanship of the bag is outstanding.  I mean as a jeweller, I can't imagine how they've managed to create this sort of beautiful work.  It's a pleasure as a professional to see that standard of craftsmanship."

That's 1 million pounds worth of craftsmanship right, there, 1.1 million if you include the consumption tax.

Want to catch a glimpse of the sparkly sack? Better hurry - it's only on display til Sunday. Then again, if you're the type to consider such an item, an impromptu intercontinental flight on your private jet shouldn't be too much of hassle.
