Steven Machado, 25, pled guilty Monday to two counts of criminal negligence causing death, after a crash that killed Cindy Dougherty and her best friend, Mariarosa (Mar) Dalsass, in October 2007.
The accident, which the Crown contends was caused by street racing between Steven and his brother, Brian, took place on Highway 50 in
Brampton
.
"The Crown has taken the position that this is street racing and the defence is saying, no this is a case that involves some bad driving that was certainly criminal, that caused death, but there was...no racing involved," said defence lawyer Peter Brauti.
