Durham NDP Candidate's War Resister Comments Raise Eyebrows

They sound more like the type of comments a teenaged cyber bully would make, not a budding politician.

But they have in fact been attributed to Durham N.D.P. candidate Andrew McKeever.  He's the latest federal election hopeful whose internet history has come back to haunt him after messages posted on his Facebook page left him red-faced and backpedaling.

The Liberals are demanding McKeever step aside after some crude internet postings made as recent as July were uncovered.

McKeever's comments were apparently directed at war resisters.

"If I ever see you anywhere in Toronto, I'll kick the sh*t out of you," he said in one.

"Answer a direct f*****g question you c**t," he wrote in another.

On Wednesday night, McKeever apologized, and later spoke to CityNews about the incident.

"I regret making the posts," he said over the phone, refusing to elaborate, saying he covered everything in a statement he released Wednesday.

It's the latest embarrassment for the N.D.P.

Two of its candidates have already resigned due to controversies, including the former host of "Pot TV" Dana Larson.

Party leader Jack Layton says McKeever will stay on as a candidate because he offered a sincere apology.
