The province is moving to sell bikes belonging to accused thief Igor Kenk.
The only problem is, the Toronto man has not been convicted of any of the myriad charges against him.
But Ontario law allows the government to seize property that’s believed to be connected to crime, even if those allegations haven’t been proven in a court of law.
In the summer of 2008, nearly 3000 bicycles were removed by Toronto Police in a series of raids that targeted Kenk’s business and home.
About a third of them were returned to their owners. Ontario could sell the rest of them.
According to Kenk, his bike shop business on Queen West had a value of $700,000. That could mean a lot of cash for the province’s strapped coffers.
Kenk has been in custody since December and will appear before a judge in March.
