School Lockdowns Lifted After Man Shot Dead At Eglinton And Bellamy

After a weekend of terrible violence in the GTA, police are dealing with yet another tragic and senseless act. This one took place at Eglinton and Bellamy Rd. around 12:15pm Tuesday, after area residents heard gunshots.

Minutes later, police arrived and found a man wounded and bleeding in a laneway. There are unconfirmed reports that he was shot in the head.

It happened right near an ambulance station and paramedics reportedly ran over to the scene and tried everything to save the victim but his wounds were too great and he was pronounced dead. The man is believed  to be in his 20s.

Witness reports indicate the shooter was sitting in a car when the bullets rang out. A two-door blue vehicle with at least two people inside was spotted speeding away from the scene seconds after the murder.

Three schools in the area, St. Boniface Catholic, Mason Rd. Jr., and Scarborough Village Jr. School were in lockdown for a time, but the safeguard was lifted about two hours later.  Authorities stress it was purely precautionary and the students were never in any danger.

The fact this latest outrage came in broad daylight so close to where young children would have been walking around the lunch hour has angered police and area residents.

The incident follows a blood soaked weekend that saw a mother and her daughter killed on Thanksgiving and three people murdered in separate and unconnected cases in Peel Region on Saturday and Sunday.
