Mayor David Miller's sagging political reputation isn't the only fallout from the civic worker's strike. Many homeowners are still stuck with yard waste that hasn't been collected.
Many haven't had their leaves and grass clippings picked up since the middle of June, and some have resorted to tossing it out with the regular trash.
Others are violating bylaws and burning the piles in their backyards as a last resort.
But Works Committee Chair Councillor Glenn De Baeremaeker said Wednesday that people who toss their yard waste in with the garbage won’t be fined.
He also says the city also wants to apologize for the delay and extend an olive branch for all those bags rotting at the roadside.
The issue of garbage collection has been a hot topic at City Hall this week, with some councillors pushing for trash collection, as well as EMS and Daycare, to be declared essential services. That would prevent future strikes from taking place.
The final decision on the topic won't be made for several months.
Also pushed back is a decision on a potential refund to homeowners who were inconvenienced by the strike.
