Controversial Condo Has No Parking, Will Take Over Historic Building

A controversial condo tower set for Toronto’s downtown core has no parking – and will destroy an historic building.

Currently, the Royal Canadian Military Institute sits on the lot at 426 University Ave.

The comparatively tiny structure was built in 1907 and is home to about 1,500 private members. It’s also dwarfed by its current glass-clad neighbours.

Developer Tribute Communities wants to put a 42-storey building on the site. During construction, only the façade of the RCMI will be preserved.

The condo has space for a car share and over 300 spots for bicycles, but no parking for residents.

The project will go to council for approval later in September.
