Toronto Police have released new photos and videos of a missing girl.
Mariam Makhniashvili, 17, hasn’t been seen in over a week. But on Sunday, she passed through Union Station around 11:15am. Security cameras there captured video of Mariam and her brother, George, in the crowd.
The pair had been volunteering at the YMCA Dragon Boat races on Toronto Island as part of a newcomers’ youth leadership group.
"The difference [between] a still picture and a video is you can see how someone walks, how they move. And it just might [trigger] you to [say], 'You know what? I need to make a call about this. That could have been her,’" suggested Crime Stoppers' Scott Mills.
She was last spotted on Monday September 14 when she was walking with George to the school they both attended, Forest Hill Collegiate.
She told him she would enter through another door but never made it to class.
A week later, her father Vakhtang Makhniashvili made an emotional plea for information at a school assembly. Members of Toronto Police and Crime Stoppers also spoke at the September 21 session.
Toronto Police have also released a YouTube appeal for clues.
She is described as:
- white
- 5’3”
- 140 pounds
- light-brown shoulder-length hair
- brown eyes
- wearing black pants
- a light-blue, long-sleeved v-neck shirt
- dark blue, waist-length jean jacket
- large black knapsack with a diagonal green stripe on the back pocket. There was also a small rip above the pocket
- watch with a silver band
So far, investigators say there is no indication of foul play.
