There are no leads in the disappearance of Mariam Makhniashvili and it's been two weeks since the 17-year-old girl was last seen outside Forest Hills Collegiate.
Last week, an OPP helicopter equipped with infrared technology was used to comb Earl Bales Park near Bathurst St. and Sheppard Ave., but no trace of Mariam was found.
Const. Wendy Drummond said Monday the
community-level command post was taken down Sunday after tips stopped streaming
in.
"The function of the command post in
the community was to allow people to approach it and speak with the officers,
but those (tips) started to slow down," she said.
Toronto Police are now turning to
police forces across the country and the world for help.
"Our efforts are going to be outside
of Toronto. We're asking for assistance from the rest of Canada, United States
and (the Republic of) Georgia, where she came from," she said.
Police have also released security
footage of Mariam and her brother entering a Toronto subway station the day
before her disappearance.
"The case has not been closed by any
means," Drummond added.
Mariam doesn’t speak much English and has no support system outside of her immediate family.
She's described as:
- white
- 5’3”
- 140 pounds
- light-brown, shoulder-length hair
- brown eyes
She was last seen wearing:
- black pants
- light-blue shirt
- dark blue jean jacket
- large black knapsack with a green stripe.
