A nine-year-old Campbellville boy managed to keep his wits about him during a frightening incident Saturday morning on the QEW in Grimsby.

The boy’s 43-year-old mother was driving east approaching Maple Avenue when she suffered a medical emergency and blacked out.

The boy turned off the ignition and guided the car to the right shoulder, where it continued to a safe stop in the ditch.

A passing motorist called for an ambulance, which transported the mother to Hamilton General Hospital.

She was pronounced dead on Sunday afternoon.

The boy was not injured in the incident.
