Halloween Weather Far From Scary As Mother Nature Brings Treat Not Trick

There are a lot of things to be scared of on Halloween but the weather definitely isn't one of them.

Mother Nature is issuing a special treat this year, shelling out a day filled with warmth and sunshine and a night when ghosts and goblins roam that will be anything but chilly.

A high pressure system will keep Friday mostly sunny during the daylight hours with an unusually warm high of 17C - a full seven degrees above the norm for this time of year and just 5 degrees off the all time record set in 1971. And it will stay great right up through All Hallow's Eve.

The primetime trick or treating hours should see temperatures at a balmy 14C by 6pm and 12C nearing 8pm, leaving kids to wander around in their costumes without the need for bulky winter coats.

About the only trick could be the winds, which will gust up to 50 kilometres an hour at times - but because they're from the southwest, they'll also pump up the thermometer.

It's the second year in a row of great weather. Last October 31st, the temperature went up to 18C, making for another perfect Halloween night.

There was little reason to expect we'd get such a huge turnaround this time after what happened earlier this week - the first major snowfall of the year blanketed areas to the north, west and especially the east in Ontario.

But perhaps a Halloween ghoul cast a special spell for those celebrating the spookiest night of the year. Environment Canada says almost the entire country, with the exception of the Northwest Territories, will be much warmer than usual for October 31st, a rare coast-to-coast-to-coast phenomenon that's as sweet as any candy.

Still, you have to beware of the witching hour. A cold front moves in after midnight that will significantly change the forecast for the weekend. It will be noticeably cooler with highs of just 7C both Saturday and Sunday.

But it won't last. If the forecast holds, we could be enjoying more summer-like temperatures by next week. Readings are expected to soar as high as 18C by Tuesday.
