The day after a teenage boy died of H1N1, other youngsters on his hockey team have reported that they are now feeling ill.

Evan Frustaglio, 13, passed away on Monday after becoming sick only a few days earlier.

He took part in a tournament with other members of the Mississauga North Stars over the weekend.

Several boys on the team have since been prescribed Tamiflu as a precaution. They have also been told to stay home from school for five days.

One of them is Josh Crisp.

“He was one of my best friends since I started playing hockey,” he said on Tuesday.

“I went to the hospital yesterday,” Josh added, “and they put me on Tamiflu to treat me.”

Josh’s dad is concerned that his son may have caught the disease. But he’s more worried about the emotional toll of losing a close friend.

“Josh and Evan were basically glued at the hip the whole weekend,” Adam Crisp described.

“It’s just been a killer on our family, personally, because we absolutely love [Evan’s] family. It’s just devastating.”

Hockey officials in London are disinfecting the arena where the tournament was played as protocol dictates.

All the players who participated in the competition – some from as far away as Pittsburgh – have been notified.

The Greater Toronto Hockey League, for its part, has reissued the precautions that teams should take against the H1N1.

That includes proper hand-washing, and not sharing towels, water bottles or other personal items.
