Despite assurances from Prime Minister Stephen Harper that 1.8 million new doses of the H1N1 vaccine will be available throughout Canada next week, Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health admits she's not sure how many the province will receive, and if it will be enough to meet demand.
"We don't know how much we are getting," said Dr. Arlene King.
"All of what we have is out there in the health units and with providers, with the exception of a very small supply. And we will continue to use that in the high priority groups until we run out of vaccine. We've received a little bit more this week, about 189,000 doses this week...so we will see how far that vaccine goes this week."
There's still no telling when the general public will be able to receive the vaccination, but Prime Minister Stephen Harper maintained his government has handled the situation appropriately.
"The government has been very clear about when and how many doses will be rolled out," Harper said. "The provinces are in the processes of distributing this, it is the largest and quickest mass vaccine program in Canadian history."
