Track The U.S. Election With Up-To-The Second Results On CityNews.ca

It may be most interesting presidential campaign in U.S. history. In one corner, there's the first potential African American Commander-in-Chief in U.S. history, an almost unthinkable idea as recently as just a few decades ago.

In the other, there's a maverick war hero and the first possible woman V.P. by his side, another scenario unlikely in the past.

One on them will win the most powerful post on the planet. And while the two lions battle it out to see who sets up his den in the White House, you can track this amazing race with just a simple mouse.

CityNews.ca has teamed up with our partners at CNN to let you track the up-to-the-second American election results online. Our interactive map lets you follow every state's progress and also tracks the key battleground areas - the places both candidates must win to take it all.

Among the keys to victory: Montana, Vermont, Missouri, Indiana, North Carolina, and of course the two locations where the last two presidential races were decided, Ohio and Florida. All are highlighted in orange so you can keep special track of them as the night wears on.

Just put your mouse anywhere on the map and the results for that state appear instantly in a small window. Click on the state itself and you can get a county- by-county tally of how each place voted. The results are updated constantly and what will start as a trickle will end in a flood of numbers as the polls begins to close in the east.

You'll also see constant updates on which of the candidates are ahead or behind as the seesaw battle continues.

Democrat Barack Obama remains the heavy favourite, with Republican John McCain insisting the polls are wrong and that he has the momentum.

But it's not their story that matters now. It's the one the map tells, an unfolding tale that won't be finished until sometime early Wednesday morning, when all the final results are expected to be in.

You can see the map on our home page or you can look at a larger and more detailed version, complete with drop down menus, by clicking here.
