Toronto police have identified a body that was found in a Bathurst Street building three days after it was gutted by a fire.

Police say 50-year-old Marie Speck was a resident of the building, near Dupont, which housed apartment units above a family support centre.

Speck reportedly woke up her neighbours early Saturday morning and alerted them to the fire. They managed to escape, but lost track of Speck.

The Children’s Storefront was due to be demolished on Monday, but work was stopped when the body was found.

An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-1400, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477), online at www.222tips.com, or text TOR and your message to CRIMES (274637).
