All over the province, students took to the streets in a protest against poverty.

The ‘Day of Action’ saw young people bearing signs and slogans in 13 cities, including Toronto.

The downtown demonstration shut down busy routes over the lunch hour as students from Ryerson University, the University of Toronto and other schools made their way to Queen’s Park.

The Canadian Federation of Students is calling on Premier Dalton McGuinty to invest more in social services and equity measures.

The CFS represents more than 300,000 students in Ontario alone.

The federation is also calling for Employment Insurance and social assistance reform, a livable minimum wage, good jobs for all and reduced tuition.
