The threat of H1N1 clinics closing due to a shortage of vaccine has become a reality.

Peel Public Health announced Friday that it would be shutting down its vaccination clinics from Sunday, Nov. 8th, until Wednesday, Nov. 11th, because they don't have enough doses to meet demand.

Officials in Toronto and Halton say they have enough vaccine for the weekend, but can't confirm next week's supply.

On Friday, the province announced it will receive 770,000 doses from Ottawa next week, but only half will contain adjuvant, an immune-boosting additive needed by most people.

However, adjuvant is not recommended for pregnant women. Half of the doses to be delivered to the province will not contain the ingredient, Health Minister Deb Matthews said.

Those from the area who fall into the priority groups are being encouraged to contact their family doctors to see if they can be vaccinated.

Pregnant women and those with children between six months and one year can also call Peel Public Health at 905-799-7700 between 8:30am and 4:30pm to schedule an appointment to receive the vaccine.

The clinics will re-open between Thursday Nov. 12th and Saturday, Nov. 14th, with new hours.

A complete schedule is available at www.peelregion.ca or by calling 905-799-7700.
