Vaccine shortages have forced H1N1 flu shot centres in Peel and Halton Regions to shut down temporarily.

Peel Region Public Health cancelled its scheduled immunization clinics Sunday after it ran out of shots. The clinics will reopen Thursday to high-priority groups only.

Peel Region is the only district in the Greater Toronto Area where the H1N1 shot isn’t available at public clinics to children between the ages of six-months and one-year and pregnant women. Health authorities are advising them to go to their doctor for the vaccine. If their physician doesn’t offer it, families should call (905) 799-7700 to book an appointment to get the shot.

Halton Region Public Health also had to cancel its clinics after it ran out of vaccine and it’s not known when the centres will reopen. A limited supply of adjuvant-free vaccine is still available for pregnant women at an Oakville clinic on Tuesday. Click here for more information.

Halton health authorities are advising people to visit their doctor for a shot.

Clinics in Toronto, York and Durham Regions are running as scheduled and the province is expecting a shipment of 395,000 doses of adjuvanted vaccine by Wednesday.

To date H1N1 has claimed 41 lives in the province and hospitalized close to 200 people.
