The city’s 53rd murder victim has been identified as a Vancouver man.

Shane Kelter (pictured), 32, was killed outside a Bay Street condo early on Sunday morning. A post-mortem revealed that he had been shot in the chest.

People reported hearing five or six gunshots around 3:20am and emergency crews found Kelter on the ground outside 1001 Bay Street.

He had been shot in the back. Bystanders had been performing CPR on him until paramedics arrived. Kelter was rushed to St. Michael’s Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Police say he did not live in the condo.

"The victim in this matter was dropped off in a white limousine. Apparently the suspect we're looking for was waiting nearby," Graham Gibson of the homicide squad explained on Sunday.

Detectives recovered a gun a short distance away on Queen’s Park Crescent, and are following up on witness accounts of a man and a number of vehicles seen fleeing the scene.
