Toronto’s First Snow: Your Pictures

Toronto received its first taste of winter Wednesday with a slushy mix of snow and rain blanketing city streets and highways, leading to dozens of accidents.

Several vehicles reportedly slid into the ditches along the southbound Highway 400 and other accidents were reported in the early stages of the morning rush.

While a storm warning issued for the city on Tuesday has ended, the soggy conditions lasted the entire day. The wet snow turned into rain by about 9am, flooding streets and seeping into homes.

There were a few school bus cancellations in Peel Region and the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) reported over 100 delayed and cancelled flights (click here for details).

Not surprisingly, retailers raked in profits Tuesday with sidewalk salt, snow shovels, ice scrapers and windshield wiper fluid flying off shelves.

Police officers at 43 Division warn thieves are preparing for winter as well. A rash of snow blower thefts from locked garages and sheds has been reported.
