Man Shot To Death Outside Wilson Avenue Bar

Police are investigating after gunfire erupted outside a Wilson Avenue bar early Wednesday, killing one man and injuring another.

It happened at Classic Cocktails, at 1805 Wilson Ave., near the Highway 400, around 3:15am. When officers arrived at the scene they found one man dead in the parking lot -- the city's 59th homicide of the year. The victim's name hasn't been released.

A second, 28-year-old man who’d also been shot in the parking lot managed to make his way back inside the bar by the time police arrived. He was taken to hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

The location is well known to outspoken Coun. Giorgio Mammoliti.  It's been raided in the past, and he says it was only a matter of time until something like this happened.

The venue is licenced to operate as a restaurant, but Mammoliti claims it's really a nightclub.

"I told them at the last raid that had everyone involved, including the OPP and those involved with liquor licences and our 31 division, that unless we actually do something here, someone is going to get killed," he said Wednesday.

"I've been on the phone all morning, we are not renewing their licence, it's been up for renewal, so I just got word from the City of Toronto that they will not be renewing their licence.  They do have the right to appeal."

Police say the owners of Classic Cocktail are cooperating, but they still need help from witnesses at the scene.

If you have any information that could help investigators, call the Homicide Squad at (416) 808-7400 or Crime Stoppers at (416) 222-TIPS.
