More than a month after it was shut down, adoptions resumed at the Toronto Humane Society Monday.
Dixie (pictured) was the first pet to find a "forever" home and more than 120 cats and 25 dogs are available – you can check out these potential pets on the THS website.
The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals closed down the shelter on Nov. 26 following a raid and a series of arrests. Five top THS staff, including former president Tim Trow, face criminal charges after a months-long investigation into alleged animal cruelty.
“We are excited to be restarting adoptions at this location and that these animals are being given the opportunity to find new, forever homes.” Ian McConachie, Senior Communicator of the Toronto Humane Society, said in a statement last month. “We will continue to work with the Ontario SPCA to place as many animals as possible up for adoption.”
Several staff members were allowed back into the River Street shelter for the first time last week where they’ll be working alongside the OSPCA.
