Police believe excessive speed was a factor in a single-vehicle crash in King Township Monday that claimed the lives of two male teens - reported to be just 15 and 17.

A third person was rushed to a Toronto hospital via air ambulance, but his injuries are not considered life threatening.

It happened at around 1:30pm at Keele Street and Lloydtown Road when a Volkswagon with three people inside lost control and rolled into a ditch, striking a tree.

"What we have here is a case of simply...a vehicle travelling at a very high rate of speed that has lost control," noted P.C. Mike Buchanan.

Authorities had closed down the intersection in all directions for an investigation, but it has since reopened.

The names of the deceased teens haven't been released by police.  The 17-year-old was driving the car.

Anyone who witnessed this crash is being asked to contact York Regional Police at 1-866-876-5423 ext. 7703.
