A dog battle in Brampton has one man fuming.
“I kept saying ‘no, you’re not taking my dog, you’re not taking my dog,’” said owner Joe Branco.
The city claims two of his beloved pets are part pit bull and seized them under a bylaw that bans the breed.
But Branco says they're both boxer mixes and is fighting to prevent his dogs from being euthanized.
Brampton Animal Services has had custody of two of Branco’s dogs since January.
“The two dogs are considered illegal pit bulls,” said Brampton spokeswoman Mariam Mesba.
“The reason they’re deemed pit bulls is because their father was a registered pit bull.”
Branco says that’s not the case – the father was an American bull dog mixed with a boxer, and the city made a mistake when registering the father.
Branco has since hired a lawyer.
“We’re all nervous since it happened. We can’t even think straight,” Branco said.
