Rare Snowfall Hits Toronto

Toronto has been spoiled so far by a nearly "snow-free" winter.  In fact, we're on pace to break a record for the least amount of snowfall in a season.  But that record could be in jeopardy if we get the full brunt of a storm system that moved into Toronto on Tuesday night and is expected to continue into Wednesday.

Despite the infrequent flakes we've seen this season, the city is more than ready to handle a heavy accumulation.

"Salt trucks began going out around 9pm focusing on hills and expressways and putting (salt) out throughout the entire city," noted the city's Myles Currie.

There is an upside to the small amounts of snow we've experienced this winter --- The city has saved a significant amount of money.

"Last year at this time we spent over 40 million, this year we're about 25 million," Currie adds.
