Do you like jigsaw puzzles? It's hard to say if Graham Hill does, but he's working on the biggest one of his life. And it could be worth a small fortune.
Hill is a garbage collector who lives in the town of
Lincoln in the central part of the U.K. He was on his rounds six months ago, when he came upon something very strange in the trash. Someone had cut up a large number of 10 and 20 pound notes and placed them out in the garbage.
He handed the mutilated money over to police and waited. When half a year passed without anyone trying to claim it, cops called Hill and told him the package was his - if he wanted it.
When the dustman discovered that the Bank of England was willing to replace the currency if the bills were reassembled with their serial numbers legible, Hill's quest was on and he's begun to painstakingly try and fit the cut-up bills back together. As anyone who's ever used a shredder can attest, it won't be easy.
But it could be worthwhile.
Officials estimate all those bits and pieces add up to 10,000 pounds - that's more than $18,500 in Canadian funds.
His colleagues are just hoping he patches up enough to buy them a round of drinks before Christmas.
