Pills have been discovered in two different areas of the city over two days leading to worries that someone is potentially trying to poison pets.
Some people who stroll with their pooches through the downtown off-leash area at Allan Gardens are concerned for their pets’ safety after pills were found strewn around the area Sunday, according to a published report.
Some of the pills were collected by a dog walker and handed over to authorities, who plan to have those tablets analyzed.
On Monday Toronto Police announced pills had been discovered on some properties in south Etobicoke and they’re trying to determine if that substance led to the death of a dog last week.
Crushed pills were discovered in up to four back yards in the Lakeshore Boulevard and Sixth Street area Monday afternoon.
Const. Tony Vella of Toronto Police said currently there's no established link between the two incidents.
"It's still unclear, it's still in the early stages of the investigation," he told CityNews.ca.
The man who put the call into police said both he and his neighbour discovered the crushed pills in their yards.
"The complainant, his dog had passed away ... within the last week," Vella said. Authorities are still waiting to find out exactly what caused the animal's death.
Police are asking anyone in the area to check their properties and report any suspicious findings to officers at 22 Division at (416) 808-2200.
