A 12-year-old girl has died in hospital following a fire that also claimed the life of her father.
Britney and Ken Einboden were pulled from their burning home on Kemp Square, in the Jane and Lawrence area, around 3pm Sunday afternoon.
Ken was pronounced dead at the scene.
Britney, suffering from smoke inhalation, was listed in critical condition at the Hospital for Sick Children. She succumbed on Monday afternoon.
"She was a good friend and she was too young and she was -," Venessa, 11, can't finish speaking. She cries, takes a deep breath, and continues.
"I didn't want her to die and I pray for her."
The pair were found without vital signs on the second floor of their home.
Ken had already managed to safely get a four-month-old baby out of the burning house and went back inside to reach his older child.
The family of four were renting the home. Ken had recently lost his job and his wife, Michelle, is on a maternity leave.
The fire marshal is investigating the blaze. The flames reportedly started in the kitchen.
And another fire north of the city killed a mother of three.
The flames broke out around 8am Sunday in a home on Doner Street, near Highway 404 and Stouffville Road.
Firefighters found Marion Deacon, 46, inside the home without vital signs. She was later pronounced dead in hospital.
