The man accused of shooting and killing OPP Cst. Vu Pham has been identified as 70-year-old Fred Preston, of Burk's Falls (pictured).
It was also revealed Tuesday that Preston once served as mayor of Jolly Township, near Sundridge, north of Huntsville.
He remains in critical condition after being wounded in an alleged gunfight with police.
Preston is accused of pulling out a gun and killing Pham, after the 15-year OPP veteran pulled him over on a rural road north of London.
Pham (pictured below) leaves behind his wife, Heather, and three sons aged seven to
12.
Sgt. Dave Rektor says the force has lost a "good friend, a great colleague (and) a very good officer."
Ontario’s SIU says nine investigators and four officers
have been assigned to the case. They have interviewed a number of
witnesses but would still like to speak to anyone with information. If
you can help, call 416-622-0748 or 1-800-787-8529.
The SIU is a civilian agency that examines incidents involving police and civilians that result in serious injury or death.
