The TTC’s decision regarding how it will deal with a bus driver accused of having alcohol in her system while on the job won’t be made public.
Spokesperson Kevin Carrington said because the TTC is conducting an internal investigation into the matter the commission’s decision on the driver’s status won’t be released.
The employee had her licence suspended for three days after she allegedly blew within the warning range during a roadside breath test last week.
Police pulled a TTC bus over on Dawes Road near Danforth Friday afternoon after riders reportedly called 911 to report erratic driving. The driver took a breathalyzer and allegedly blew between .05 and .08 – a reading that prompted a three-day driving suspension, but not an impaired charge.
The driver was also suspended without pay.
TTC Chair Adam Giambrone suggested the commission would issue its decision on the driver’s fate Wednesday, but Carrington said there’s no set timetable.
This incident represents another black eye for “The Better Way” which has been plagued by a series of public relations problems.
The TTC is currently reviewing its customer service practices with the help of an advisory panel after one worker was caught sleeping on the job and a second employee was videotaped pulling his Bathurst Street bus over for an unscheduled break.
The TTC chair also bowed out of the city’s mayoral race last month due to a sex scandal.
