16-Yr.-Old Girl Stabbed At Kennedy Subway Station

The afternoon rush is stressful enough without being marred by violence. But that's what police and passengers are dealing with after a young girl, believed to be just 16 years of age, was stabbed at Kennedy Subway Station Monday afternoon.

It happened around 4pm on the LRT platform. Subway service had been suspended for a time but is up and running again. The LRT was also temporarily disrupted as cops probed the incident.

There was reportedly a cell phone on the tracks that police needed to retrieve although it's unknown how that might figure into the crime.

Paramedics raced to the scene and the youngster's wounds were serious enough that she's been rushed to the Hospital for Sick Children for emergency treatment.

Police are said to be looking for a suspect described as:

  • Black
  • Female,
  • 17,
  • Heavy set build,
  • Wearing all back clothing
  • Carrying a large black handbag.

There's no word on what sparked the incident, but cell phones are frequent theft targets among young people.

The crime has renewed concerns about security on the TTC, which can target both riders and drivers. Call (416) 808-4100 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at (416) 222-TIPS if you know what happened in this case.
