Victim Deep Engineer
One teen has died and another is on life support after they were pulled from a Scarborough pool Wednesday afternoon.

Celebrating the first day of summer break, 14-year-old Deep Engineer and his classmate Michael Lee, also 14, went swimming at a friend’s apartment building near McCowan Rd. and Finch Ave. E.

They weren’t strong swimmers and soon found themselves in trouble in the pool’s six-foot deep end.

By the time emergency crews arrived the boys had no vital signs. They were rushed to hospital, but Engineer was pronounced dead.

"They couldn't swim – only in the shallow end. So I don't know how they went into the deep end," said Engineer’s best friend, Jerusam Yoganantham

"I just can't believe Deep's actually passed away.”

Lee remains in critical condition.

"It hits home," said Lee’s neighbour Andrew Kapsimalas.

"They are your neighbours. You know them well. Still, it's a child and it's hard for a parent to go through something like that."
