One boy has died after he and a friend were pulled from a hotel swimming pool Friday afternoon.
It happened around 3pm at the Toronto Don Valley Hotel & Suites near Victoria Park Ave. and Eglinton Ave. E. There was no lifeguard on duty at the time, and the victims were in the water for about five minutes before hotel staff could get to them. The boys' friends also tried to rescue the pair.
“They gave them mouth-to-mouth and life support. Most of our staff is CPR trained. They did a great job,” said general manager Kevin Porter.
One of the boys, aged 12, had no vital signs and was transported to Toronto East General Hospital. he was pronounced dead on Saturday morning. The other, a 13-year-old, was conscious and breathing and was transported to Sick Kids Hospital.
“When we heard it was a young boy, it was a devastating feeling,” said witness Thekla Bardouniotis.
The Brooklyn, New York residents were guests at the hotel, in town for the Robbie International Soccer Tournament this weekend.
On Wednesday, two 14-year-old boys were pulled from a Scarborough swimming pool. One of the teens, Deep Engineer, was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital. The other, Michael Lee, was on life support until he died on Friday.
