StreetBeat – July 19 – Children Injured In School Bus Crash

Several children were hurt when the bus they were taking to day camp crashed in Newmarket Monday afternoon.

Around 1pm, the school bus was travelling northbound on Harry Walker Parkway back to a mixed martial arts camp in the area, when an SUV entering the intersection at Kerrisdale Boulevard collided with it.

There were 22 children on board and many received bumps and bruises. One had minor neck and back injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Some kids went home with their parents; others continued on to camp.

Police are investigating.


Man Shocked In Industrial Accident Downtown

A 19-year-old worker is in hospital after he got a bad shock while at a downtown construction site.

It happened Monday morning while the man was working at a building at King and Sumach streets, east of Parliament.

Emergency crews attended to the victim, who was on scaffolding at the time of the accident. He was transported to hospital, but his condition is not known.


Lightning Sparks Markham Fire

Officials say lightning is to blame for a fire on the roof of a Markham home early Monday.

No one inside the home at 27 Peter St. was hurt in the fire. The blaze was under control within minutes but one firefighter was injured in a fall from a ladder.


Pedestrian Hit

A 25-year-old man was hit by a car early Monday on Lawrence Avenue East, near Victoria Park.

The accident happened around 2:30am when the victim was crossing Lawrence outside the intersection with his two brothers.

The man’s injuries aren’t life-threatening.

There’s no word yet on charges.


Police Searching For Man Missing For Three Weeks

Toronto Police are looking for a man who has been missing for over three weeks and they need your help.

Algis Skrebunas, 55, was last seen around 2pm on Friday, June 25 in the Eglinton Avenue West and Islington Avenue area.

He is described as:

  • white
  • 5’10"
  • slim
  • 130 lbs.
  • salt and pepper unkempt hair
  • blue eyes
  • unshaven grey beard
  • He was last seen wearing brown dress pants, a brown Polo shirt and dark blue slippers and carrying a blue gym bag.


Police are concerned for his safety.
