A 66-year-old cyclist was killed in a traffic collision in Markham Monday night.
The victim was struck by a van on Rodick Road, in the 16th and Woodbine Avenues area. The cyclist, who was wearing a helmet when the crash happened, hasn’t been named.
York Region Police believe that a 53-year-old woman was behind the wheel of a Toyota Sienna heading north on Roddick. She turned left onto 16th Avenue and struck the cyclist.
It happened around 10pm.
The cyclist was rushed to hospital, but died of his injuries. The driver of the Sienna was not injured.

There’s no word yet on charges.
Update August 12:
York Region Police have charged a woman in connection with the crash. Yuk-Ying CHU, 53, has been charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.
Officers believe that the victim was walking his bicycle, not riding it, at the time of the fatal crash.
