Caribana Festivities Kick Into High Gear

Not so fast: a jam-packed weekend means road closures in the city, and July 31 and August 1 will be busier than most.

This weekend, it’s Caribana. The largest event of its kind in North America brings more than one million people – and millions of dollars – to Toronto.

The 43rd annual event began on July 15, but the big parade is on Saturday.

Motorists also need to watch out for road work that’s already underway. For a full list, check out the City of Toronto website.

Caribana Parade:

Lake Shore Boulevard will be closed in both directions from Colborne Lodge Drive to Strachan Avenue, beginning at 1:30am on July 31 and reopening August 1 at 6am.

The Prince's Gates will be also be closed, starting at 1am Saturday.

The following streets will have restricted access for vehicles during the parade:

Dufferin St., south of King St. W.
Dowling Ave., south of King St. W.
Stadium Rd., south of Lakeshore Blvd. W.
Queen's Quay W., west of Bathurst St.
Springhurst Ave., west of Jameson Ave.
Springhurst Ave., east of Jameson Ave.

Access to Ontario Place will be available along Remembrance Drive from Lake Shore and Strachan Avenue.

Police are reminding motorists that some downtown streets could be closed off with short notice for the party. The Entertainment District and the Yonge-Dundas area are traditionally popular spots for parade after parties and there may be restricted vehicle access Saturday night.
