A jewellery store employee is recovering following a brazen armed robbery on Eglinton near Bayview.

The heist happened just after 6pm Monday at Arax Jewellers at 660 Eglinton Ave. E. Two men burst into the store and opened fire, hitting a 55-year-old man, reportedly in the arm and leg.

“They're such nice people next door. The door's always locked and they don't let anybody in - you have to buzz," Bob Krieger, who owns Mama's Pizza next door, said.

The business has security measures in place at the front of the store, but authorities believe the bandits forced their way inside via a back alley.

The suspects grabbed an undisclosed amount of jewellery before taking off. They got in a car and headed north on Bayview.

So far, no suspect descriptions have been released.
