The city of neighbourhoods is about to get one more – a 10-acre, $800 million development on the shores of Lake Ontario.

"Bayside" architects Cesar Pelli and Stanton Eckstut have planned a walkable, green community made up of 1,700 homes, a retail and entertainment corridor and offices for 2,400.

The project will be built on the underused city-owned land south of Queens Quay Boulevard between Lower Sherbourne and Parliament streets.

"It will reconnect the city to the waterfront and create a world-class destination by offering vibrant public spaces, excellence in urban design, experiences and amenities," said Waterfront Toronto president John Campbell.

Final approval for the project is expected at a city council meeting at the end of next week.

The project will be completed in stages and should be finished by 2021.
