Orangeville Police released a photo of a missing woman as they searched the area around her home.

Sonia Varaschin, 42, (pictured above) was reported missing by her family Monday after she didn't show up at Southlake Regional Health Centre, where she works as a nurse.

Varaschin's white Toyota Corolla was found in an alley near Alexandra Park on Monday night smeared with blood. Investigators, including OPP officers, searched Varaschin's Spring Street home on Tuesday and found blood there as well.

"You hope the best for her and her family,” said neighbour Laura Barens.

“It doesn’t look good at his point."

It appeared officers were searching for a body in the dense bush with the OPP helicopter circling above, but they say they are still hoping to find her alive.

“I don’t want to speculate about what has happened to Sonia,” said OPP Constable Jonathan Beckett.

“Our primary focus is finding her and making sure she’s okay.”

Varachin's family is now waiting for news at their home near Bolton.

She is described as:

  • 5’1”
  • 125 lbs
  • brown hair with lighter coloured streaks

If you can help, call police 519-941-2522, ext. 2211 or Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
